What are Some Great Bluegrass Songs?

January 30th, 2010

jancanyon asked:

I really want to get into bluegrass. I know who a lot of the more popular groups are out there, but what are your favorite songs for a bluegrass mix? I just listened to “Wildwood Flower” and really love it. Im into Nickel Creek, Alison Krauss, Tim O’Brien. Any suggestions would be awesome! Thanks!

    popular movies

Foggy Mountain Breakdown (Flatt & Scruggs version is best)
Orange Blossom Special (famous fiddle tune)
Uncle Pen (I like the Ricky Scaggs version)
    Dueling Banjos (from “Deliverance”)
    Dooley (the Dillards)

Anything by Yonder Mountain String Band, Stanley Brothers, and the Dillards

check out the Del McCoury version of vincent black lightning 1952, his recording is by far the best you will find of that song, better than the original artist, better than nanci griffith if that is possible, you will hear why the Del McCoury band is #1 in bluegrass today, only Alison Kraus can come close to those boys
